Chania is set to welcome a major new name in luxury hospitality, with Fairmont Hotels & Resorts preparing to make its debut in Greece. The new Fairmont Chania Resort is scheduled to open in 2029, bringing a high-end beachfront retreat to the northwest coast of Crete.
Developed by Accor in partnership with Hersonissos Group Hotels, the resort will feature 104 rooms and suites, including 40 suites, combining contemporary design with elements inspired by Chania’s distinctive Venetian heritage. The architectural concept, created by architect Luciano Mazza, takes inspiration from the city’s maritime history and reinterprets it through a modern Mediterranean style.
For travellers, the location will be a major part of the appeal. The resort is planned directly by a wide sandy beach, with its own beach club, while also offering easy access to Chania’s historic Old Town, local beaches and the outdoor experiences that make western Crete such a popular destination.
Food will also play an important role, with five dining concepts plus a speciality restaurant planned for the property. Guests will also have access to a 900-square-metre wellness centre, complete with six treatment rooms. Families are not forgotten either, with dedicated kids’ and teens’ clubs, while a private chapel will make the resort suitable for destination weddings.
More than simply another luxury hotel, Fairmont Chania is designed to connect its guests with the character of Crete. From its architecture and gardens to its culinary offering, the project aims to bring together the island’s history, landscape and contemporary Mediterranean lifestyle.
With its opening still a few years away, Fairmont Chania is already shaping up to be an exciting new addition to Crete’s evolving luxury travel scene.
