Piraeus is continuing to strengthen its position as more than just a gateway to the Greek islands, with a new hotel development set to bring a fresh hospitality concept to the port city. The Modernist, the Greek boutique hotel brand known for its contemporary design and distinctive urban character, is preparing to open its third property in Piraeus in 2027.
The upcoming hotel will feature 45 rooms and is expected to introduce the brand’s signature approach to hospitality to one of Athens’ most dynamic neighbouring destinations. While Piraeus has traditionally been associated with ferry connections and maritime activity, the area has increasingly attracted attention as a destination in its own right, supported by its cultural landmarks, waterfront setting and evolving dining scene.
One of the highlights of the new property will be its rooftop aperitivo bar, designed to offer guests a place to unwind while enjoying views across the port city. The hotel will also feature an all-day café, creating a welcoming space for both visitors and locals, alongside areas dedicated to cultural events and social gatherings.
The project reflects The Modernist’s broader philosophy of combining thoughtful design, contemporary aesthetics and a relaxed approach to hospitality. Rather than simply providing accommodation, the brand aims to create spaces that connect with the neighbourhoods in which its hotels operate.
The choice of Piraeus is particularly interesting as the city continues to evolve beyond its role as Greece’s principal passenger port. Its proximity to central Athens, access to the Saronic Islands and growing selection of restaurants, cafés and cultural venues make it an increasingly attractive option for travellers looking to explore a different side of the wider Athens area.
With its opening planned for 2027, The Modernist Piraeus will add another boutique accommodation option to the local hospitality landscape, catering to travellers seeking a contemporary city stay with a strong sense of place.
