Athens is making its mark on the international cocktail scene, giving travellers yet another reason to explore the Greek capital after dark. Three Athens cocktail bars have secured places in the prestigious World’s 50 Best Bars 2026 list, reinforcing the city’s growing reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting destinations for drinks, creativity and nightlife.

Announced in Milan on 7 October, the latest ranking celebrates exceptional bars from around the world, recognising innovation, quality and outstanding hospitality. This year, Line, The Bar in Front of the Bar and Barro Negro have all earned a place among the world’s finest, putting Athens nightlife firmly in the international spotlight.

Leading the Greek entries is Line, which claimed an impressive fifth place worldwide. Located in the neighbourhood of Kato Petralona, this innovative cocktail bar in Athens has built its identity around sustainability, experimentation and locally sourced ingredients. Its approach to mixology includes fermentation, homemade preparations and creative ways of reducing waste. Set inside a former art gallery, Line offers a distinctive experience for anyone interested in discovering the more experimental side of the Athenian cocktail scene.

At 19th place, The Bar in Front of the Bar brings a different atmosphere to the city’s drinking culture. Situated on Petraki Street, near Syntagma, the venue combines an informal outdoor counter with a more intimate indoor cocktail space. Its inventive drinks, carefully selected ingredients and relaxed setting make it a popular stop for those exploring the best cocktail bars in Athens.

Completing the Greek trio is Barro Negro, ranked 40th globally. Particularly recognised for its focus on tequila and mezcal, the bar introduces visitors to the world of agave spirits through creative cocktails and an extensive selection.

These international distinctions highlight how Athens has evolved beyond its traditional image of tavernas and late-night entertainment. Today, the Greek capital offers a diverse nightlife experience, where contemporary mixology, independent bars and local creativity meet.

For visitors planning a trip to Greece, exploring the best bars in Athens is becoming an essential part of experiencing the city’s modern character.
