A landmark beachfront hotel in the Peloponnese welcomes guests with renovated accommodation, Mediterranean gastronomy and a renewed focus on the beauty and traditions of Messinia.

Kalamata is an appealing destination for travellers seeking a combination of seaside relaxation, authentic Greek cuisine and cultural discovery. Now, one of the city’s best-known hotels is offering an updated experience following a €20 million renovation.

Grecotel Filoxenia Kalamata has completed an extensive transformation, refreshing its accommodation and facilities while maintaining its distinctive connection to the region. Located along the Messinian Gulf, with views of Mount Taygetus, the hotel offers a coastal setting for exploring southern Greece.

Contemporary Comfort by the Sea

Originally opened in 1951 as the Kalamata Xenia Motel, Filoxenia has been part of the city’s hospitality history for decades. Its renovation introduces updated interiors across 162 accommodation units, comprising 95 rooms and 67 suites.

The refreshed design combines contemporary elegance with natural materials, refined details and works by Greek artists, including creators from Messinia. With its beachfront location, landscaped gardens and swimming pools, the property provides an inviting setting for a relaxing Greek getaway.

Discover the Flavours of Messinia

Food is an essential part of any visit to the Peloponnese, and the hotel’s renewed dining offering celebrates the region’s culinary identity.

The Olive Club is a highlight of the transformation, combining retro-inspired design with a terrace overlooking the gardens. Its culinary concept draws inspiration from Messinia’s celebrated produce, including its renowned olive oil and olives.

Guests can also enjoy the hotel’s poolside dining facilities, adding to the relaxed atmosphere of a seaside stay.

Explore Kalamata and Beyond

Beyond the hotel, Kalamata offers a lively waterfront, traditional tavernas, local markets and a historic centre worth exploring. The wider Messinia region invites visitors to discover archaeological treasures, picturesque villages, beautiful beaches and scenic countryside.

The hotel also features the Elixir Olive Spa, providing a dedicated space for relaxation after a day of sightseeing.

With its €20 million renovation, Grecotel Filoxenia Kalamata combines refreshed hospitality with the natural beauty and culinary traditions of the Peloponnese, making it an appealing option for travellers planning their next Greek escape.
