Discover the Heart-Shaped Island Near Poros That Will Captivate You

There are places you visit to see the sights, and there are places you visit to feel something truly unique. In the bay of Poros, just a breath away from the shore, lies a speck of land that belongs to the latter category. It is a place so romantic that nature itself ensured it took on the most fitting form: a rocky island in the shape of a heart that floats proudly in the deep blue waters of the Saronic Gulf.

The name “Daskalio” carries with it legends that are lost in time. Some say that a secret school operated there during the Ottoman occupation, while others recount the story of a nun named Franzeska who taught weaving to the young women of the area before the Revolution of 1821.

The island has also written its own history on the big screen, as in 1960 it hosted the filming of the movie “I Kyria Dimarchos” (The Mayoress) starring Georgia Vasileiadou. In 2002, it starred in a promotional advertising campaign for our country, deservedly earning the name “Eros” (Love) and establishing itself as the ultimate destination for romantic weddings.

Why visit?

In the center of the island stands the picturesque chapel of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary. It is the ideal place for a short escape from Poros, offering tranquility and crystal-clear waters for swimming away from the crowds.

  • How to get there: By boat from the port of Poros. The trip is short, and the view of the island from the sea will reward you.

  • Tip: Visit in the late afternoon, when the sun begins to set and the colors of the Saronic Gulf become magical.
