Athens is set to remain connected to Canada well beyond the traditional summer travel season, with Air Canada extending its direct services from Toronto and Montreal into January 2027.
The airline will continue operating its Athens routes until mid-January, before returning to the Greek capital again in early March. The expanded schedule means that Air Canada will come remarkably close to maintaining a year-round presence between Athens and Canada, leaving only a short gap during the winter.
For travellers, the change offers greater flexibility when planning a trip between Greece and Canada, particularly during a period when direct transatlantic options are typically more limited. It also opens up additional opportunities for Canadians to visit Athens during the quieter winter months, when the city takes on a very different character from its busy summer season.
The extended operation is particularly relevant for the strong Greek-Canadian community, making it easier for families and friends to travel between the two countries outside the peak holiday period. At the same time, more consistent air connections can support business travel and other exchanges between Greece and Canada.
Air Canada’s decision was welcomed at a recent event in Athens attended by representatives of the Canadian Embassy, Athens International Airport and organisations from Greece’s tourism and business sectors. Canadian Ambassador Sonya Thissen was also present at the event.
The announcement comes as Athens continues to strengthen its position as a destination beyond the summer months. For visitors arriving from Canada, the longer flight schedule provides more opportunities to experience the capital in autumn, winter and early spring, while also offering convenient connections for those travelling onwards within Greece.
With Air Canada’s services now stretching further into the winter, the Athens–Canada route is gradually becoming less seasonal, giving travellers more choice throughout the year.
