Meliá Hotels International Expands into Corfu with “The Meliá Collection”

Meliá Hotels International is dynamically expanding its footprint in Greece, selecting the iconic island of Corfu for its latest strategic move in the premium and luxury hospitality sector. This new agreement marks the hotel group’s seventh property in Greece, further cementing its presence in one of Europe’s most coveted tourist destinations.

From St Georges Bay to The Meliá Collection

The property, currently operating as the St Georges Bay Country Club & Spa, is located on the northern coastline of Corfu—a region celebrated for its natural beauty and exclusive shores, including the pristine beaches of Barbati, Agni, and Nissaki.

Meliá’s development plan for the property unfolds in two key stages:

  • Summer 2026: The hotel officially joins the group’s portfolio under the Affiliated by Meliá brand. It currently features 86 rooms, an all-day dining restaurant, a lobby bar, a beach club, comprehensive wellness facilities (spa and gym), and dedicated spaces for meetings and events.

  • 2027–2028 Transition: A comprehensive renovation will follow, aimed at upgrading the property to a five-star standard. By 2028, the hotel will officially transition into The Meliá Collection, with its capacity expanding to 140 rooms.

A Strategic Investment

The Meliá Collection is not a standard hotel brand; it is a curated selection of properties with distinct identities. Each hotel is designed to offer guests authentic, personalized experiences that are deeply rooted in the local culture, history, and character of its destination.

Gabriel Escarrer, Chairman & CEO of Meliá Hotels International, emphasized the significance of this expansion:

“This agreement in Corfu reaffirms our commitment to growth in the Mediterranean, with a focus on the luxury sector. We aim to offer a differentiated hospitality proposition that will contribute to further upgrading the island as a high-end destination.”

A Proven Partnership

The investment is being realized in collaboration with the Albanian group Concord. This partnership builds upon the success of their previous venture, the Meliá Durrës in Albania, and underscores a shared vision for developing high-quality tourism infrastructure in key Mediterranean hubs.

With the arrival of Meliá, Corfu gains a powerful ally in its ongoing effort to attract discerning travelers—those who seek the perfect blend of Venetian architectural heritage, UNESCO-listed cultural history, and modern, upscale luxury.
