Step away from the coast and you will find mountain villages, ancient ruins, hiking trails, local wineries and centuries-old traditions that can turn a simple beach holiday into a much richer journey.
Naxos: Villages, Mountains and Local Flavours
Naxos has some of the finest sandy beaches in the Cyclades, but its interior is just as impressive. Head into the mountains and discover villages such as Halki, Filoti and Apeiranthos, where stone houses, small squares and traditional tavernas reveal a different side of island life.
Hikers can explore trails around Mount Zas, the highest peak in the Cyclades, while food lovers should look out for local cheeses, potatoes, citrus liqueur and dishes made with ingredients grown across the island.
