Rhodes, with an area of ​​1400.68 km2, is the largest island of the Dodecanese and the fourth largest island in Greece after Crete, Evia and Lesvos. O population is 115 290 inhabitants, according to census conducted in 2011, which makes Rhodes the third most populous Greek island – after Crete and Evia. Located about 350 kilometers southeast of Athens 18 kilometers southwest of Turkey. It has 253 km of coastline and the highest point of the island is the top of the mountain Attaviros height 1,215 m.

The capital is the city of Rhodes with a population of about 55,000 inhabitants, which is the seat of the homonymous Regional Unity, which also includes the islands of Halki, Symi, Tilos and Kastellorizo. Rhodes town is the medieval town, which has been included since 1988 in the World Heritage of UNESCO.
