A familiar name in Thessaloniki’s hotel scene is getting a contemporary refresh. Holiday Inn Thessaloniki has completed a major update to part of its accommodation, continuing a wider transformation of the property that has been underway over the past few years.

The latest work has brought 43 rooms and suites on the seventh and eighth floors up to date. The redesigned accommodation includes four Deluxe Suites, three Junior Premium Suites and 36 Premium Standard Rooms, introducing a more contemporary setting for both leisure and business travellers.

Comfort and connectivity are central to the new rooms. Guests can now control the temperature independently through individual VRV systems, while dedicated Wi-Fi access points and new IPTV systems bring improved connectivity and in-room entertainment. A Guest Room Management System also allows various room functions to be managed automatically, while upgraded windows and doors provide improved sound insulation, privacy and energy efficiency.

The changes are part of a broader evolution of the hotel. In 2023, the property introduced a new Open Lobby, bringing together the reception, restaurant, bar and Business Corner in a more open and flexible setting. Another highlight is the Level 9 Bar-Restaurant, where guests can enjoy panoramic views across Thessaloniki and the Thermaic Gulf, alongside an indoor heated pool.

The hotel itself has been part of Thessaloniki’s hospitality landscape for decades. Originally opened as Capitol Hotel in 1968, it joined the IHG network as Holiday Inn in 2001. Today, its central location places it just around 50 metres from Dimokratias Metro Station, making it particularly convenient for visitors looking to explore the city without relying solely on a car.

And the transformation is still underway. The remaining guest-room floors are scheduled to be renovated progressively, meaning further changes are on the horizon as Holiday Inn Thessaloniki continues to combine its long-standing presence in the city with a more modern guest experience.
