Aria Hotels has officially opened The Duchess on Therasia, bringing a new high-end accommodation option to the small Cycladic island opposite Santorini.

The property, which was first announced in 2024, has undergone upgrades and renovations ahead of its opening this summer. Located in Manolas, the capital of Therasia, The Duchess is an adults-only boutique hotel with 11 suites and views across the volcanic landscape towards Santorini.

The opening adds to the gradual development of Therasia’s tourism offering, as the island attracts attention for its proximity to Santorini while retaining a considerably smaller scale. The Duchess is among the first high-end boutique hotels to establish a presence on the island.

The accommodation is housed within a property shaped around traditional Therasian architecture, with the suites featuring domed ceilings and arched interiors inspired by the island’s historic cave houses. The design incorporates elements associated with the local landscape, including stone and volcanic materials.

Facilities at the hotel include an infinity pool, restaurant and bar areas overlooking the surrounding scenery. Guests can also make use of daily breakfast, 24-hour reception, in-room dining, luggage assistance and transfers between the property and Therasia’s main port.

The culinary offering is centred on The Duchess Restaurant by 1890, where the menu draws on ingredients from Santorini and the Cyclades. A chapel on the property is also available for weddings and private occasions.

The hotel has already received international attention following its inclusion in a Condé Nast Traveller feature on hotels in the Santorini area. The publication highlighted its cliffside position, cave-style accommodation and views towards the neighbouring island.

The Duchess forms part of the wider portfolio of Aria Hotels, which operates boutique hotels and villas across Greece and international destinations. Its arrival marks another step in the development of Therasia as a destination in its own right, rather than simply a viewpoint across the caldera towards Santorini.
