A new phase of development is taking shape at Sani Resort in Halkidiki, with the Sani/Ikos Group moving forward with an expansion that will add 119 new rooms and suites, increasing the resort’s capacity by 250 guests.
The new development will cover an area of approximately 59,000 sq m and will include nine accommodation buildings arranged around two swimming pools. The design features four different accommodation types, with the junior suite serving as the main model. Ground-floor units will also feature private courtyards and direct access to the pools.
Despite being referred to as the “Sani Asterias Extension” in the environmental documentation, the development will not operate as a separate hotel. Instead, it will form part of the wider Sani Resort and operate in connection with Porto Sani Village, following a similar architectural identity.
Once completed, the expansion will bring the resort’s total capacity to 927 rooms and suites and 1,878 beds, up from 808 rooms and 1,628 beds today. The new development will add approximately 6,030 sq m of built-up area.
The expansion will also introduce new dining and leisure spaces. At the heart of the development, a new single-storey building will feature a restaurant, an outdoor bar and a covered dining area. The plans also include two new swimming pools: an approximately 442 sq m adults’ pool and a 61 sq m children’s pool.
Further upgrades across Sani Resort
The new accommodation is part of a broader programme of investment and upgrades across Sani Resort. At Sani Beach, renovation and energy-efficiency works are planned, while Porto Sani Village will see additional facilities for its Kids Club and gym.
The final architectural design for the extension has been reviewed by Greece’s Ministry of Environment and Energy and was deemed compatible with the existing environmental terms. However, this does not mean that all approvals required for construction have been completed.
Part of a €1 billion investment programme
The Halkidiki expansion forms part of the Sani/Ikos Group’s wider investment programme of more than €1 billion, covering new resorts and major upgrades across Greece and other Mediterranean destinations.
The group is also developing Ikos Kassandra in Halkidiki, while its wider expansion plans include projects in Crete, Spain and Portugal. By 2029, the group’s overall portfolio is expected to exceed 5,600 rooms and other accommodation units.
A specific construction timeline or total investment amount for the new Sani Resort extension has not yet been announced.
